Play-by-play to come in a bit after I've had a meal and watched 4x03 live on BBCA...
Let's just say that my "meh" reaction to last week's ep was not just turned around 180 degrees this time, but blown out of the water. In the future, when I look back at this series, it's going to be:
AWESOME
MORE AWESOMER
eh. ok.
OMFG I THINK I JUST DIED
... And I hope to have similar reactions to the last three eps. :)
Favorite bits: Lester's enormous, titanium-lined scrotum. Hannah's fantastic acting (shit, she made me cry!) Becker being a Badass from Badass City and fighting like a beast even when he was damned near dead. And Connor putting his geekery to use. Oh, and something about copious man candy. Dunno. Musta missed that. ;)
Not-so-favorite bits: The lack of backup. Again. But that's so par for the course for this show that it really gets filed under willing suspension of disbelief these days. Also, I continue to be bored shitless with Emily and Ethan, even with how very pretty she is, and with how much I want to write Refined Laydee femmeslash with her and Jenny.
There was some scripting fail here and there. The bit with Connor going fanboy over Burton didn't quite jive, considering that this episode was supposed to be the very next day after 4x03. Though, really... I think that was probably a fail in the 4x03 script. They could've--should've--had a bit more of Connor warming to Burton at the end to justify that.
That said, I'm not as cranky as some with the Connor/Abby conflict. For one, he was in shock when Burton proposed the euthanasia. If someone you were a fan of suddenly proposed something like that, you'd probably take a second to have a "what the actual fuck?" moment, too. He was in disbelief. He had to try to justify those words with the image of Burton he had. Hi, classic cognitive dissonance, there.
This is supposedly the beginning of quite the rift, however, with Connor starting to turn to the Dark Side, so to speak. I admit that I'm not looking forward to that from a "don't break my woobie" standpoint, but also sort of am, from a "hot damn, juicy character development for Andrew to play" one.
The real bummer with Connor going rogue, however, is that I suspect my beautiful trio is probably on its way to becoming entirely non-canon-plausible (beyond the obvious reasons), so I imagine I'll be moseying over to Denial island shortly. I might be able to squeeze in a bit of h/c and anger fucks and such, but my happy little triad is showing signs of cracking, now. Booo.
FWIW, though, the Becker/Matt slash? Is totally canon, now. Jeebis.
Also, I thought Buster was supposed to be in this ep, but I guess not. Wonder which one he's really in?
