Waiting for M to finish up last week's Torchwood, so here's the Fandom Exes meme, courtesy
vann. This may not be terribly interesting, since I haven't done much formal fandom stuff, but we shall see... ;)
The one who seduced you, screwed you over, broke your heart in a million pieces, and laughed about it:
LOTR. Probably THE worst fandom in which to lose one's fannish virginity. I had no idea of general fandom protocol, much less fic fandom protocol, and promptly fell on my ass. There were amazing moments, and I met some fantastic people, including several I still consider friends, but damn, that was insane. On so many levels.
The old flame you don't see very often any more but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp:
BSG. Didn't really do the fandom itself much, but I still keep up with a lot of the cast and crew, and still think it was one of the best shows ever. If I had the bandwidth, I'd give it a full rewatch.
The mysterious dark one whom you used to sit up with talking until 3 AM at weird coffee houses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized s/he really was fucking crazy:
Lost. First couple of seasons, it was awesome. Then, as the show got more loony, so did the fans. I was prolly one of the few who liked the finale, but I can't go anywhere near the fandom now because of how many people hated it.
The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank up all your liquor and whom you'd still really like to get with again, although you're relieved s/he doesn't actually live in town:
Caprica. Was utterly obsessed with it while it was airing, and had it continued, I'd have been knee-deep in it even now. Prolly best that it was cancelled.
The steady:
18 months on, and I'm still in Primeval fandom. There have been a few speedbumps here and there, but it's been largely good and satisfying. And I'm apparently becoming a BNF in it. Which is slightly worrisome, but oh, well.
The alluring stranger whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with:
Probably either Warehouse 13 or Leverage. Similar levels of interest in both, but have yet to find an entry point for the fandom that quite works for me.
The one you hang out with and have vague fantasies about maybe having a thing with, but ultimately you're just good buddies:
Eureka. There isn't much of a proper fandom for it that I can find, and what is out there just isn't my kinda thing. I'd want to do things like Jo/Fargo/Holly, and most people I've seen are just all about the Jo/Zane. Meh.
Similar issues with Sanctuary. Most of that fandom seems to be centered around pairing Helen up with someone or other. Not nearly enough slash/alt pairs for my interest level.
The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a hell of a cool person except it's never really gone anywhere:
Torchwood. I like the show, I like the people in it, I like most of its fans, but it's just never really lit me on fire.
The one who's slept with all your friends, and you keep looking at them and thinking, "How the hell did they land all these cool people?"
Whedonverse. Any. I detest the man, but so many people I love and respect like him. And IDGI. I find myself biting my tongue in an awful lot of fannish circles, which is a little frustrating.
The one who gave you the best damned summer of your life and against whom you measure all other potential partners:
Not entirely sure, but I'll say Andrew fandom (beyond Primeval.) Just about all the Andrew fans I've encountered are fabulous people. You know you have a good fandom when the object of said is happily engaged, and not only do his fans have no problem with this, they adore her just as much as they adore him.
The few exceptions to this have been relatively mild. Aside from some of the rude fad fans (who have now moved on) they're usually just young or delicate-minded sorts who crush out on Connor as an innocent, and don't get that the man behind him is a grownup who swears like a sailor and readily jumps at roles with some truly twisted content. Just about everyone who gets that, though, is awesome.
The one you recently met at a party and would like to get to know better:
Game of Thrones. Which sucks, because I can't get into it without spoiling myself from all the book readers.
The old flame that you wouldn't totally object to hooking up with again for a one night romp if only they'd clean up a bit:
Fringe. Now that the Peter/Olivia nonsense is mostly played out, I may go back to this. Especially now that Lincoln's going to be a regular.
Your hot new flame:
Criminal Minds. Still way behind on it, but once we've caught up to the current season, chances are good I'll be diving into fic writing for it. It's a huge, huge fandom though, so that alone may keep me away.
The one who stole your significant other:
Nothing specific, though he's plenty happy to watch Bones and NCIS, and neither of them do anything for me.
