OK, first off: I'm still shaking. Even despite knowing a few spoilers beforehand (and it turned out some of them were either wrong or red herrings) I was still really shocked at how things unfolded. Very tightly paced, lots of WTF moments--just great overall. Not surprised, really: The writer and director for this one were the same as 4x01. (And again: I love the way Mark Everest shoots Andrew. He just looks so gorgeous with all those closeups.)
Now, to specifics...
One thing to get out of the way: NO BECKER IS NOT DEAD. The other security dude who got shot twice was fine. Becks was just knocked unconscious, that's all. There's no way, given how critical he's been to the story and how many eps he's been in now (more than Murray and as many as Dougie!) that they'd let him die an anonymous death, without everyone falling apart over it.
Loved how Danny's return was handled. It was emotional, but well within character for him. Also loved the reveals we finally got on Matt and Ethan (not that we hadn't figured that out.) I kind of liked how Ethan was used as a red herring, but I suspect there's still more of his story left to tell.
The most awesomest thing about this, though? Connor. Anomalies. Philip. Holy sheez. Connor being all sciency and brilliant and yet so colossally stupid about trusting Philip... Oh, honey. You crazy, clueless geek. I love you, and yet I want to throttle you!
And the worst part is that now Matt's going to be pursuing Connor for most of s5. I think Connor's going to go rogue, abandon everyone, etc., and Matt's going to have to... I dunno. I don't want to think about it!
Loved that, at least, Connor and Abby seemed to be on really good terms, AND I got my three babies back in the same room again!
The only thing I didn't like was the Emily thing. I want to like her. I really do. She's gorgeous and seems to have the barest hint of a personality, now (especially after last ep.), but I can't help thinking that her entire purpose in being in the show was to give Matt some emotional depth. I really dislike female characters that are there solely to further character development for males.
Oh, and one last minor quibble is that we didn't see Jess react more strongly to Ethan being in the corridor. She should've had a major shit fit when she called for backup there. I'll blame awkward editing for that, though.
Overall, I'm happy with this, and happy with the series as a whole. If I had to rank the eps:
1
7
6/2
4
5
3
It's probably no surprise that the eps I like the most are the ones that had several moments where I squealed out loud from the awesomeness. Whereas 5 had only one (the last scene in the cave) and 3 only gave me two tiny twitches of happy (the wink and the password/ring kiss) and was otherwise a completely dreadful mess.
