Great creepy music over the scene setting. That's good direction right there. In fact, this whole opening sequence has some very good direction. Almost makes me ignore the dodgy script.
Love love love Emily's clothes. Want. And I'm not in any way a Steampunker.
Ethan's kinda cute, but I already think he's creepy.
Confused about why doors would be locked from the inside. Doesn't that violate fire codes or something?
LOVE the tree creeper attack/cut to opening titles.
My guess about Gideon being sick was right (the handkerchief business in previous scenes tipped me off.)
Also, I want his house. Nice digs.
OK, we've established that Gideon has Matt on a hunt. Do we need to keep reiterating that?
And now, for the lecherous pervery portion of our recap:
-Damn, Ruth Kearney has a nice ass.
-Becker, Connor and Abby jogging in, fresh from a group grope in the locker room.
-Andrew looks so good in tight shirts. Unf.
-"I really should be with..."
/lecherous pervery
"I need your help" with this forced plot device...
"The core team have military training..." Um. Abby doesn't. Bad scriptwriter. No coffee.
Side note: It looks like some time has passed between last ep and this one. Enough for C/A to get some new clothes/haircuts, etc. Looks like a good spot to set fic, IMHO.
Hallo, recycled footage. Though not as egregious as the s1 scene at the university. Connor hops off that wall a good half-dozen times through that series.
Jess totally needs to rat out Matt. He's going AWOL too much.
OK, this plot device is really, really bad. How on earth does it make sense to respond to a creature escape with an automatic, irreversible lockdown? What if you lock in your whole team and an anomaly opens and spews out a pack of something toothy in the middle of some poor sod's wedding?
I do rather like Connor being annoyed at first. He's gone from his initial hero worship to being snotty and defiant. That's a good bit of continuity from the first two eps.
"Great, now I'm an overpaid button pusher" Welcome to my life, Connor darling.
Gorgeous theater they found, btw. I'd give my left tit to perform in there. Bet the acoustics are sublime.
And now for some plausibility fail: If this location is cityish, how did Matt get there from a country estate faster than the rest of the team?
Matt running around the past, chasing Emily (yawn)
Dodgy Becker and Abby dialogue time. Sigh...
More fail: Why aren't the rest of the team with them to set up the locker? Why is Becker doing this instead of looking for Matt?
More running, chasing... Ooh, nice hit, Emily.
Extremely Creepy Critter Time. Seriously, this thing is going to give me more nightmares than Dave.
I. Want. That. Dagger. *grabby hands*
And here's a whole sequence of crappy dialogue. Though I did like Abby giving Becks a smack. Heh.
Matt trying his best to cast Avada Kedavra on the critter...
Nice frustration there, Connor. And honestly, I can't figure out what Burton's trying to do by keeping him there.
Yes, DO smell the weird chick's "perfume", Matt. So smart.
Ciaran does look nice in this scene. His face is growing on me.
That dagger must not be remotely sharp. And therefore rather useless.
Redshirt #1 getting friendly and tight with the critter.
Emily clocking redshirt #2 (Where do they FIND these guys? Are they getting their military training from a mail-order university in central Arkansas?)
Matt and Becker going at it. Seems like now Becks has his people back (minus one Mr. Quinn) he's really, really not hot on the expedition thing. Good reaction from him to the redshirt death, though. Nice to see SOMEONE getting upset at those.
Oh looky. Matt's chasing Emily again.
Connor bitching about TPS reports. Poor thing.
They never explained how Rex got out of the secured area. Hm.
Another WTF moment: Why would that scan not recognize Rex as harmless and not lock down?
"What kind of idiot gives someone a job to do and doesn't even brief him properly?" Good question. Given the script fail in this one, maybe we should ask Tim and Adrian that.
Burton's a genius, right? Yeah. Not so much. A retinal scan with only one person? Not even Lester? Seriously, dude. That's entry-level security stuff.
Mm, Becker and Abby, creeping around looking tasty
Ethan clocking redshirt #3
Not so hot on the CG there. Looks too much like one of the aliens from the original V.
Strange little aborted shooting attempt. Woulda been awesome if Abs really had shot the thing that way.
WTF moment #... I've lost count. If the point of the lockdown is to trap a creature inside the airlock space so it can be taken down, why not just electrify the floor or something? Quick and easy. (At this rate, I'm going to apply for a job there myself. Sheesh.)
One good thing: Absolutely zero flirtation between Connor and Jess.
The Connor quipping stuff honestly just doesn't work in this ep. It feels like some amateur fan attempting an RP of s1 Connor. Meh.
I do like the creature's combat mechanics.
Matt and Emily wandering around a basically deserted street. Are they living in a ghost town or something?
Abby being all clever and heroic! And getting a nice little wink from
"Clearly, you've not seen Abby in a bad mood." OK, the one good, in-character line from Connor in the entire ep.
Aw, Rex...
Hello, plot Macguffin #2
"Shoot it!" "I can't, it's out of range!" "Shoot it!" Um, chica? What part of "out of range" do you not get?
Clever zapping, there, though.
Old skool DOS-looking graphics. TOO old skool. Also, wtf with no visible security for the pwd? Connor's smarter than that. Yes, I know they needed to show the cute little password. Still.
Is it just me, or is Connor not nearly upset enough about Rex? Feels odd. Mebbe Andrew was too busy wrestling with the script.
And Mr Raptor Pants shows up again. Nice. :)
And now that we've had the climax of the B story, time for the A...
Shouldn't he have been prepared to shoot that thing as soon as it attacked? I thought he was Mr. Creature Behavior genius. I guess they had to establish Emily's little poison pendant, though.
They could've cut this whole roof sequence and added in some actual character development. Still, I suppose we did get the bit about Emily's little group of 15 and their Prime Directive.
Critter fall down and go boom. Poor critter.
They insisted on getting the knight back to his own time to avoid mucking with human history. Why wouldn't they insist on the same for Emily and Ethan?
Abby looks upset for lying to Becks. Hmm.
Burton flattering Connor. Seems sincerely impressed. And now he's gonna blow smoke up Connor's ass, and Connor's going to buy it. This Will Not End Well.
"Lacks a woman's touch" Well, yeah.
Hmmm. OK, on the second watch, I think I get what Emily's group is: They're Losties. They got stranded on the time version of Craphole Island and have been anomaly hopping since to try to get back to their time. Shit, their murderous bad guy is even called Ethan and they have a dead Charlotte.
Previews: Evil Burton is Evil, Crafty Abby is Crafty and there's a threat of Becker going down. (And I will SERIOUSLY open a can o' whoopass on Tim and Adrian if he goes this quickly. He needs to survive at least through this series, dammit.)
