Dodging bullets

I realize that fic and general fanthing perving isn't quite the shameful secret it was when I got into this 10 years ago, but it's still slightly scary to see people mentioning such things where the subjects thereof can see it--especially when the discussions start trending in a direction that might out me and the stuff I write. Ack.

Yes, Andrew's prolly not generically anti-fic (or even anti-slash) and he's undoubtedly well aware that I and his other fans have naughty thoughts about him. But that's all abstract. He doesn't exactly need specific details linked to specific people, y'know? It's bad enough that people have posted some of my dodgier vids on his page. I don't want him showing up here and reading the stuff that comes out of my twisted, overactive imagination. Poor guy would probably be horrified and start drawing up a restraining order.

Though maybe not. I really have no idea, I guess. For all I really know, he could be even pervier than I am (which would be difficult, frankly.) But honestly, I'd much rather err on the side of assuming he'd potentially be disturbed than assuming he'd be perfectly fine with it.

As it is, he's very hard to pin down in terms of estimating his open-mindedness/general attitude about these things anyway. Just when I think I have an idea, something happens to make me reconsider. For instance, he's clearly got a bit of a dark side (likes horror movies, has a bit of a goth/emo streak), but then he's also apparently somewhat religious, so...? And he has quite the range of twisted/naughty stuff on his resume, but he's also an old-fashioned romantic.

On the flip side, just when I think he's undoubtedly finding some fangirl squee annoying, he goes and baits us with something or other (like his should-be-patented Smouldering pose, which is downright hilarious.) And it really seems far too coinkydental that only a week after my whumping vid went live (even though I didn't link it), he posted that pic from filming of him all beaten up. Like... he saw the vid, figured there's a contingent of pervy fans who like seeing him get smacked around, and then catered to it. Which... Eep.

Also, I totally had to laugh today with Alex's comment that siccing the fangirls on him to make him edit faster might not really be a threat. Just seemed so out of the blue to imagine him actually reveling in being drooled over. Although, now that I think about it, that might not be so odd. He's spent most of his life being an obscure bad boy character actor and then Plucky Comic Relief that having fans think of him as heartthrob material now might well be a major ego boost, rather than annoying.

All the same, though, even if he is chuffed by knowing he's lighting hundreds of crotches on fire, I don't think he needs to know exactly what goes on in my or any other fan's head. There's flattering and then there's "excuse me while I back away slowly."

Would I worry about this less if he were single or with someone who didn't have a history of dealing with overzealous fans? I dunno. Maybe. Maybe also if I weren't such a stereotypical dirty old lady. Yes, we may never even meet, but if we did, I wouldn't want him freaking out that this fat old married chick is the one who writes about his characters having kinky sex with each other, y'know? Even if he has a kinky mind himself--which is entirely possible and maybe even likely--that sort of thing is still probably beyond him, and regardless, not something he'd want to think about WRT some random fan he'd just met.

So, yeah. Prefer to stay closeted about this if I can, and hoping people with big mouths don't change that status for me.
